READ THE WHOLE STORY
Acclaimed documentary filmmaker KEN BURNS had thought he had finished
a 14 hour documentary on World War II. When a reporter asked him
if he had included interviews from Hispanic veterans, Burns cavalierly
said no. Little did he know that Hispanics were, relatively, the
most decorated people in that war and their participation involved
the heroism contrasted with the discrimination suffered upon their
return.
Burns had included interviews with Blacks, Asians, women,
but no Hispanics. Trying to excuse the oversight, Burns later said
everyone's story could not be included and finding hispanic veterans
was not easy.
BUT AN AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED
Other strips may find their way on this page but since
this artist first heard of this story, it has been reported that
Burns has sort-a, kind-a seen his mistake and, without altering
his film, he's going to add footage at the end of each segment
as benevolent second thought. It's not exactly the inclusion Latinos
were looking for but, to Burns mind, it was giving SOMEthing.
His balls need to be busted but now for other reasons.
